One of the brightest pages of Russian history was sung in the ancient epic The Lay of Igor's Campaign (Slovo o polku Igoreve) and embodied by Alexander Borodin in the opera Prince Igor, which he worked on for almost 18 years but never managed to complete. The composer himself jokingly called himself the author of the "unfinished opera". After Borodin's sudden death, his friends and colleagues Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Alexander Glazunov completed work on Prince Igor.
The premiere of the opera Prince Igor took place on 23 October, 1890 in St. Petersburg at the Mariinsky Theatre. At Helikon this great work of Russian classics that captivated the entire world will be presented for the first time on 26 June, 2026.
The Helikon version is most close to the composer's idea — these are unusual semantic accents, an original interpretation of the score and unexpected images of the main characters.
