Act I
Rodolfo, Marcello, Colline and Schaunard – are young and talented friends, who live very poor, but are full of hope and dreams. They have not money, it is cold in their house, but they treat with humor to the “temporary inconvenience”. Schaunard is managed to find food and wine, so the friends are having fun. After getting out the landlord, to whom they owe the room rent, they are off to the café.Rodolfo remains alone in order to finish an article he is writing. Timid and sweet lady Mimì comes to get a light. The conversation ensues between young people. The story about her lonely, humble life touches the poet. So, love breaks out between them…
Act II
Rodolfo, Mimì, Marcello, Schaunard and Colline are having fun at the cafe in Quartier Latin. Marcello’s ex-girlfriend Musetta appears with her rich admirer Alcindor. She still loves Marcello despite she left him, so, is trying to reclaim his attention. Alcindor‘s presence prevents her and she sends him with an invented task. Marcello gives in to Musetta’s charms. Under the march of the night patrol the company retires, leaving unpaid bills to Alcindor.
Act III
Marcello and Musetta live at a little tavern on the outskirts of Paris near the Barrière d'Enfer. Marcello paints a sign for the hospitable innkeeper. Mimì comes up there to ask him for advice. She is seriously ill and permanently coughs. According to her words Rodolfo became unbearable because of jealousy. They are ready to break up. She hides, when sees Rodolfo. He gives out the truth: Mimì is terminally ill. Found out the frightening truth she insists on the break-up. Marcello and Musetta begin to argue and break up again.
Act IV
Marcello and Rodolfo are missing the girlfriends and trying to work in their cold room. Musetta and sick Mimì suddenly appear. Friends put her to bed gently, each one tries to do something: Marcello sells Musetta’s earrings and comes back with the medicine. The doctor should arrive soon. Mimì is happy: she is again with the beloved. But her minutes are numbered…
