A statement of the leadership of "Helikon-Opera"

Due to the appearance in numerous mass-media the information that representatives of “Archnadzor” stopped the so-called “destruction” of the Glebovs-Streshnevs-Shakhovskaya mansion for the building of the new stage of “Helikon-Opera” and the prohibition by the Mayor of Moscow to construct in historical centre of Moscow, that followed that heroic efforts,  the leadership of “Helikon-Opera” would like to make things clear.

It is necessary to note, that “Helikon-Opera” theatre doesn’t have the authority to stop or to continue building. The developer really stopped the works on restoration with adjustment for the needs of “Helikon-Opera” of buildings 1 and 2 in the house of 19/16 in Bolshaya Nikitskaya street, which is famous as Glebovs-Streshnevs-Shakhovskaya mansion. The works on the project, as well as works on the other similar projects, were stopped by the Mayor’s order to prepare the new scheme of issuing the new licences for building in the historical centre.

In their statements the defenders of the historical city’s view on purpose or accidentally are distorting the causal connection of the events, trying to prove the illegality of the construction of the new stage, despite the unanimous decision of the Public Council under the Mayor of Moscow on the town planning and architectural view of the city to continue the restoration of the theatre from the 24th of March. They are trying to discredit “Helikon-Opera” theatre and its Artistic Director Dmitry Bertman. So far as the antiquity in Bolshaya Nikitskaya is not under any threat, we are sure that some other important tasks are awaiting the selfless activities of the defenders of historical view of the city.
