Dmitry Bertman is staging an opera in Baku (Azerbaijani)
Premiere of the opera of modern Azerbaijani composer Frangiz Ali-zade "Intizar" (libretto by Nargiz Pashaeva) in Dmitry Bertman's production will take place on stage of Geidar Aliev Palace on the 11th of May in Baku (Azerbaijan).
Frangiz Alizade is a composer, pianist, musicologist, pedagogue. Since the beginning of her career she was interested in music of classics of the musical avant-garde of the XXth century. As a composer Alizade collaborated with the leading world perfromers, especially with violoncello players Ivan Monighetti, Yo-Yo Ma, Mstislav Rostropovich, David Geringas. In 2007 Frangiz Alizade became the Director of Composers Union of Azerbaijani.
"Intizar" opera was finished in 2009. Libretto was written by Nargis Pashayeva, professor, public figure, rector of Moscow State University branch in Baku, Artistic Director of UNS theatre, "Intizar" is a scale opera, the patriotic plot of which is devoted to the struggle of folk characters for the freedom of their homeland.
Dmitry Bertman's creativity is closely connected with Baku. "Helikon-Opera" theatre more than once visited this hospitable city. But it is the first time, when Dmitry Bertman produces an opera by Azerbaijani composer. Bertman's permanent coauthors set designer Hartmuth Schorghoffer (Austria), costume designer Karina Chrome (Austria), conductor Vladimir Ponkin and choreographer Edwald Smirnov (Russia) also take part in this project.
