Helikon-Opera tour to Bulgaria

During the Festival of Russian culture in Bulgaria Moscow musical theatre "Helikon-Opera" will show two performances. On the famous stage of Sofia National Opera, which once was symbolically called "Society of Opera Friendship", 130 artists of Helikon's troupe will appear in "Boris Godunov" by M. P. Moussorgsky (D. D. Shostakovich edition) and "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" by G. Rossini.

"Boris Godunov" is one of the most famous Russian repertoire operas. It is an absolute champion in number of editions, which it is performed in. M. Mussorgsky left two author editions, and N. Rimsky-Korsakov five (!!!) different versions. "Helikon-Opera" turns to the edition made by Dmitry Shostakovich in 1940 on demand of Bolshoy Theatre. After Shostakovich began a new orchestrating of Musorgsky's clavier, he partly became a co-author. The destiny of this edition was uneasy. The premiere took place in Kirovsky theatre of Leningrad in 1960 only. This edition can be heard very seldom, because it is very complicated for performing. The premiere of "Boris Godunov" took place in 2006, the 100th anniversary since D. Shostakovich birth. Stage-director Dmitry Bertman, musical director and conductor Vladimir Ponkin. The whole troupe of "Helikon-Opera" is engaged in this performance, first of all, the unique team of basses, who came to the theatre for the last few years.

"Il barbiere di Siviglia" is the premiere of this year. Stage-director Dmitry Bertman. Musical director is a young conductor Konstantin Tchudovsky.

It happened so that it is the first time when People's Artist of Russia Dmitry Bertman, who staged more than 70 productions all over the world, addressed to "Il barbiere di Siviglia". Comic opera is a very complicated genre. To create an atmosphere of a real theatrical game, sparkling with new energy and infectious laughter, the director has to have an exceptional  sense of humour and rich fantasy. Dmitry Bertman seems to have both. The number of director's fancies in "Helikon's" performance impresses one's mind. The characters are weaving intrigues both in figurative and literal (from ropes) ways. One of the female characters turns out to be... Russian.

Festival of Russian culture in Bulgaria is supported by the Ministry of Culture of Russian Federation.
