29.07.2015

On July 31st and August 1st Moscow musical theatre "Helikon-opera" under Dmitry Bertman will perform the "Tsar's Bride" by N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov at Kolomenskoye Museum Reserve.

This is the second experience of  open-air performance in cooperation between the museum and Helikon-opera. On August 9, 2014 Moscow musical theater "Helikon-Opera" presented "Boris Godunov" by M. Mussorgsky in D. Shostakovich edition as part of the celebration of the two dates: the 175th anniversary of the birth of Modest Mussorgsky, and the 20th anniversary of the inclusion of the Church of the Assumption in the list of World Cultural and Natural Heritage. The performance took place in the square of the Church of the Ascension in Kolomenskoye Museum Reserve, had a huge success and attracted a lot of publicity.

Due to the great interest in such events, this year the museum has decided to increase the number of seats on the high bank of the Moskva River. This year's the partner of the project will be "Rosgosstrakh" company, which would help in solving the technical issues of the project.

"The Tsar's Bride" is a drama about a passionate love, doomed to perish in the harsh conditions of a totalitarian system.

Freeing opera from years of plaque routine and pseudo-patriotic pathos, Dmitry Bertman, led simple love story to the level of broad tragic generalizations and gave it a scale, which is more characteristic to Shakespeare and Racine, he opened the way, showing the soul of the Russian people. The scenery of the play will be the facade of the monument of architecture - the Church of the Ascension.
