"Tchaikovsky Gala" at the Museum-estate of Pyotr Tchaikovsky

On June 18, 2014 "Tchaikovsky Gala" concert was held at the Museum-estate of Tchaikovsky in the town of Klin in the context of the International Art Festival "Moscow Nights with Tchaikovsky". The festival takes place in the framework of the program of the Moscow Region Governor Alexander Vorobiev "Our Moscow Region". This year the festival is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the composer's house museum.

The main participants of the festival are the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia under Vladimir Spivakov and the Moscow musical theater Helikon-opera under Dmitry Bertman.

Especially for the arrival of artists "Helikon" Museum was opened and excursion was held. Helikon entourage were able to see the recreated rooms of the great composer, his personal belongings, and in particular, the table at which he created his masterpieces, and also to hear the sound of his grand piano.

Journalists and friends of the theater arrived in Klin together with artists. They had the unique opportunity to visit the museum archives, as well as get acquainted with the legendary woman Polina Weidmann, the leading researcher of the Museum. Polina Weidmann dedicated her life to the study of Tchaikovsky’s manuscripts, his many diaries and letters. It is fully possible to call her a unique person in the world, the only one who knows all about the composer - his work, character and lifestyle.

Guests were shown the original Tchaikovsky’s writings - his first autograph left in in his father’s letter when he was 4 years, scores of works, librettos, stage director's records, posters, letters and diaries. More than 3 hours guests talked with Polina Efimovna. During this time, they learned a lot of amazing facts about the great man and composer.

"Tchaikovsky Gala" concert consisted of fragments of such operas by Pyotr Tchaikovsky as "Eugene Onegin", "Undina", "Oprichnik", "Mazeppa", "The Maid of Orleans", "Iolanta", "Queen of Spades" and  "Moscow cantata".  Arias and duets were performed by People's Artist of Russia Natalia Zagorinskaya, Honored Artist of Russia Larisa Kostyuk and Sergey Toptygin, winners of international competitions Elena Mikhaylenko, Elena Semenova, Ilya Govzich, Maxim Perebeinos, Alexei Tikhomirov and Symphony Orchestra of Helikon-opera under the control of the People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Ponkin.

The audience warmly welcomed artists, there was a standing ovation despite the cool weather.

The team of Helikon-Opera expresses gratitude to Narmin Shiralieva, the Adviser for Culture of Moscow Region Governor and TV presenter, as well as the Director of the Tchaikovsky Museum-estate Galina Belonovich, senior researcher of the museum Polina Weidmann and Head of the Department of  manuscripts and printed editions of the museum Ada Ainbinder for organizing the festival and unforgettable time, spent in Klin.
