The premiere of "The Stone Guest" by A. S. Dargomyzhsky

On the 28th of November on stage of GITIS Students Theatre in a Big Gneznikovsky side-street, the premiere of "The Stone Guest" by A. S. Dargomyzhsky will take place. The new performance is presented by the workshop of People's Artist of Russia Professor Dmitry Bertman (stage director Galina Timakova).

In "The Stone Guest " a composer, whose 200th anniversary is celebrated this year, refused the services of librettists, putting music on the original text of "The Little tragedies" of his double namesake Pushkin. Dargomyzhskiy’s reform pointed the way to the composers of the "Mighty Handful" in Russia and a whole new trend "literary opera” had grown from its seed in the twentieth century in Germany.

Since its world premiere in 1872, "The Stone Guest" had been kept in the repertoire of Russian and foreign troupes. In the XIX century Fedor Komisarzhevsky and legendary Osip Petrov performed Don Giovanni and Leporello at the Mariinsky Theatre, in the XXth century Vladimir Atlantov and Alexander Vedernikov performed Don Giovanni and Leporello at the Bolshoi Theatre, Galina Vishnevskaya and Irina Arkhipova, Tamara Milashkina and Tamara Siniavskaya as Donna Anna and Laura.

Today "The Stone Guest " is a real rarity. The 200th Dargomizhskiy’s anniversary is a perfect occasion to remember the "will" of the opera reformer. Especially at GITIS, where the vocal department is headed by Tamara Siniavskaya, the reference of Laura.

Young singers, GITIS students Evgeniy Ivanov (Don Giovanni), Ekaterina Vakulenko (Donna Anna) , Julia Gornostaeva (Laura) , Andrey Opolsky (Leporello), Igor Kuznetsov (Don Carlos), Adilet Shaylobek-Tegin (Monk, Commander), Julia Shavarina? Natalia Pichurina? Yegor Vasilenko, Dmitry Bakhtalin (Laura guests) perform “The Stone Guest” in GITIS. Director's group - Evgeniy Aleshin, Juliana Bulanenkova, Karina Danilova, Katerina Kirichenko, Sergey Morozov, Vera Sinotina. Set designer - Sergey Morozov.
