"Helikon-opera" tour to Thailand

Troupe of Moscow musical theatre “Helikon-opera” under Dmitry Bertman returned from Thailand, where the theatre took part in the XV International music festival in Bangkok.

The largest Asian musica festival was founded in 1999. According to tradition, the event is held under the patronage of the princesses of the Royal House of Thailand. For the past years its organizers turned the Festival into a world-class event. Each year the festival gathers the elite of not only traditional art forms such as opera, ballet, symphonic music, jazz, modern dance, but also such exotic for Thailand arts as the ballet on ice and the Latin dances.

On stage of The Thai Cultural Centre fro 2500 seats “Helikon-opera” presented "Les Contes d’Hoffmann" by J. Offenbach (conductor Eugene Brazhnik) and “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” by G. Rossini (conductor Valery Kiryanov), as well as concert of Russian symphonic music. The orchestra of the theatre performed Tchaikovsky’s Symphony № 3, "Pictures from the Exhibition" by M. Mussorgsky (edited by Maurice Ravel) and "Polovets’ Dances" from the Borodin's opera "Prince Igor" (conductor Eugene Brazhnik).

Artists of the theatre also took part in the concert of “The Ten Tenors” from Australia. During the festival some artists also visited Russian Saint Nicolas Orthodox Church in Bangkok and sang the Divine Liturgy.

The participants of the tour noted the high level of organization of the festival and permanent respect , which artists of Moscow wer e treated with. The photo from “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” in “Helikon-opera” production was placed on the cover of the festival’s booklet.
