The Ist International competition of young opera directors "NANO -opera" has finished In Moscow

On March 29 the ceremony of awards of the First International competition of young opera directors "NANO - the opera" took place in "GOGOL CENTER".

The Ist International competition of young directors "NANO -opera" (biennale) took place in Moscow musical theater "Helikon opera" from March 25 to March 29. Organizers of competition are Helikon-opera theater, Department of Culture of Moscow, the Union of Theatrical workers of Russia and Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet theater.

In Russia competition of opera directors was held for the first time. Young (under 35 years) directors, representatives of various drama schools, worked in real modern conditions.

The creativity of contestants was estimated by the international jury which included leading opera directors from Russia, Europe and America. The chairmen of the jury was the Minister of the Government of Moscow, the Head of Department of Culture of Moscow Sergey Kapkov and the Artistic director of Helikon-opera theater Dmitry Bertman. The representative media jury also worked at the competition.

More than thirty applications were sent to the competition, the members of the international professional jury selected ten contestants for further participation.

From February 25 to February 28 these ten people were accepted by Krasnoyarsk opera and ballet theater where they passed creative laboratory training and performed a gala concert.

On March 26 and 27 on the II-nd round of 10 lucky ones who were selected on the I-st round on explications, staged arias and duets with actors "Helikon-opera", and, on March, 28 during the III-rd round of competition the audience saw the stage work on mass scenes. The musical material of the competition was based on "Helikon-opera" performances. The production process happened in sight of the public.

Following the results of the III-rd round of competition the International jury defined winners.

Grand Prix of the Competition (an award of 100 000 rubles and the right of staging a performance on a historical scene of "Helikon-opera") was given to Dmitry Belyanushkin.

George Dmitriev got the Ist award (70 000 rubles).

The II-nd award (50 000 rubles) was given to Tatyana Mitkaleva.

The III-rd award (30 000) – Pavel Sorokin.

The prize of spectator sympathies was won by George Dmitriev.

The main prize of media jury, an award of Culture TV channel, was given to Julia Fain.

The prize of "Russian newspaper" was given to Dmitry Belyanushkin.

George Dmitriev won prizes by Orpheus radio station and Musical Life magazine.

Tatyana Mitkalyova got a special prize of the Moscow State Academic Children's Musical Theater named after N. I. Sats (the right of staging a performance). Philipp Razenkov received a prize of the Union of theatrical workers of Russia and the Bolshoi
theater of Poland (the right of staging a performance in this theater).

The special prize of Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theater (the right of staging a performance) was given to Alexey Frandetti.

Kapitolina Tsvetkova-Plotnikova won a special prize of Baden theater (6 weeks of probation).

A gala-concert was shown at the end of the competition. The program included the best scenes, shown during the contest.
