The first international competition for young opera stage directors "NANO-opera"
Hundreds and thousands vocal competitions are held every year in the world. Conductors compete rarely and stage directors so much rarely. Still, the style, the success and longevity of an opera today depend primarily on directors.
On the 25-29 March 2013 the final of the First International Competition for young opera stage directors "NANO-opera" will be held at the Moscow Musical Theatre "Helikon-Opera" under Dmitry Bertman. The competition is organized by the theater and the Department of Culture of Moscow, the Union of Theatrical Workers of Russia and Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre.
In Russia, the competition for stage directors is held for the first time. Young (under 35) directors from different countries will have to work in the actual present conditions, when the prefix "nano" can be attached literally to everything - first of all, to the given time. Easy to produce "nano" set design will be minimal, so that the competitors would focus on the most important - the work with the actor.
On March, 25 the finalists will be drawn. From the 26th to the 28th of March young stage directors will stage arias, duets and scenes from Helikon’s repertoire with the artists of "Helikon-Opera". The whole process will take place in the public eye, so the audience will be able to see how the final product with which we are introduced on opera premieres turns out.
But first, from February 25 to 28, participants will visit Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, which will host a training lab.
Creativity of the contestants will be judged by an international jury consisting of leading opera directors from Russia and Europe.
