XXI "Crystal Turandot" ceremony of awards took place in Moscow
On September, 24 the XXI ceremony of the First Theatre Award "Crystal Turandot" was held at the State Academic Vakhtangov Theater. The award was established in 1991 and since then the most distinguished masters of the metropolitan scene are awarded on the basis of a regular Moscow theater season. Producer and director Boris Belenky has been the organizer of the award over these years.
The XXIst ceremony was held in the theatrical form according the original script. Nonna Grishaeva and Alexey Colgan were the hosts of the ceremony. Artistic director of "Helikon-Opera" Dmitry Bertman and journalist Nikolai Svanidze presented the award in the "Best performance of the season" nomination to the Artistic Director of Vakhtangov’s Theater Rimas Tuminas and Yulia Borisova, Lyudmila Maksakova, Vladimir Zeldin, Vasily Lanovoy, Vladimir Etush, Yuri Yakovlev and other actors for "The Refuge" performance.
At the end of the evening the soloists of "Helikon-Opera" Maya Barkovskaya, Marina Kalinina, Alexandra Kovalevich, Maria Maskhulia, Irina Reynard, Lydia Svetozarova, Ekaterina Trebeleva sang Calaf's aria from "Turandot" by Puccini.
This year, a crystal trophy was presented in the following categories: "Best Debut" (Olga Lerman for the role of Anna Karenina in the same name play in Vakhtangov theater), "Best Actor" (Kirill Pirogov for the role of Maksudov in the " Theatrical Novel" play by Petr Fomenko), "Best Actress" (Yulia Rutberg for the role of Medea in the the same name play play in Vakhtangov theater), "Best set design" (Maria Tregubova for the "Gorky 10" play in Dmitry Krymov’s Laboratory), "Best Director" (Pyotr Fomenko was posthumously awarded for his performance of "Theatrical Novel"), "The best performance of the season" ("The Refuge" directed by Rimas Tuminas, Vakhtangov Theater). Galina Konovalova and Valentin Gaft received "For the honor and dignity" prize.
