On the 23rd of January 2012 the opera world is celebrating 100th anniversary since birth of great Russian opera stage director Boris Pokrovsky
Boris Pokrovsky had been the principal stage director of Bolshoi theatre for 20 years. He staged over 180 performances all over the world, among them 40 on stage of the main theatre of our country. B. Pokrovsky, the People's Artist of Russia, laureate of several Stalin's prizes, an owner of orders of Lenins and Labour Red Flag, laureate of Russian and international prizes and orders, pedagogue, author of more than 9 books and art monographs.
Boris Alexandrovich helped to create Helikon-opera. It was him who asked the authorities to give the Moscow state theatre status to Helikon.
Artistic Director of Helikon-opera Dmitry Bertman and Boris Pokrovsky were not only teacher and student, but also they were friends. Boris Alexandrovich has always been a permanent spectator and a tutor. The whole torupe gathered after performances and rehearsals, visited by Pokrovsky. He analized work, giving wise advice, criticising and approving. He personally knew many Helikon's artists, whom he had worked with in other theatres.
Pokrovsky's last open letter, in which he supported the reconstruction of "Helikon-opera" building in Bolshaya Nikitskaya, was published in "Izvestia" newspaper. Besides his words of support, Pokrovsky said: "As it is impossible to imagine Russia without Bolshoi, it is impossible to imagine Moscow without Helikon-opera".
On the 19th of January the flower of the opera society, relatives, colleagues and friends of Boris Pokrovsky will gather in the hall of Helikon-opera. His wife Irina Ivanovna Maslennikova, his daugther Alla Pokrovskaya, his grandson Mikhail Efremov, friends and colleagues George Ansimov, Makvala Kasrashvili, Zurab Sotkilava, Vladimir Redkin, Alexey Maslennikov, Yuri Vedeneev...
The evening will be held as a master-class by B. A. Pokrovsky. His archive thoughts about the opera will be combined with the performance of Helikon's soloists, chorus and orchestra. Stage director Dmitry Bertman, conductor Konstantin Chudovsky.
