Helikon’s tour in May


From the 18th of 23rd of May 2010 “Helikon-Opera” troupe  participated in annual festival “White Nights of Karelia”with “Gershwin-Gala” and “Kalinka-Opera” performances. The festival took place in Petrozavodsk. The event was organized by Karelian State Philharmony under support of the Ministry of Culture of Karelia and the Department of Culture of Moscow. It was the first tour of “Helikon-Opera” to Karelia. Petrozavodsk public warmly received the stars of the theatre The Honoured Artists of Russia Anna Grechishkina, Marina Karpechenko, Larisa Kostiuk, Ekaterina Oblezova, Andrey iVylegzhanin, Nikolay Dorozhkin, soloists Maya Barkovskaya, Marina Kalinina, Maria Maskhulia, Lidiya Svetozarova, Ekaterina Trebeleva, Mikhail Verbitsky, Mikhail Guzhov, Alexey Dedov, Andrey Palamarchuk, Oles Paritsky, Mikhail Seryshev, Dmitry Skorikov, Dmitry Khromov, artists of the choir and orchestra and the conductor Konstantin Chudovsky.

Besides playing the performances, artists visited Kizhi island and Kivach natural reserve. Karelia met the theatre with the wonderful weather and the friendly attitude of the organizers. Helikon says greatest thanks to the Artistic Director of the festival Viktor Gorin for the wonderful tour.

"Helikon-Opera" artists in Kizhi


Right after coming back from Karelia soloists of the theatre went to Tallinn, where the gala-concert, devoted to the opening of the Days of Moscow Culture, took place on stage of “Estonia” National theatre. The concert was organized by the Mayor’s Office of Tallinn and the Government of Moscow and was called “The Duet of Tallinn and Moscow”.  The stage directors were the Artistic Director of "Helikon-Opera" Dmitry Bertman and Stage Director of “Estonia” National Theatre Naeme Kuningas (Bertman’s classmate and friend). The numbers, duets from popular operas in Russian, Estonian, Italian and French, were performed by the soloists of “Helikon-Opera” The People’s Artist of Russia Natalia Zagorinskaya, The Honoured Artists of Russia Larisa Kostiuk and Vadim Zaplechny, laureates of international contests Elena Mikhailenko, Irina Samoilova and Mikhail Guzhov, as well as the soloists of “Estonia” theatre Heli Veskus, Helen Lokuta, Mart Madiste, Aare Saal, Rene Soom, Urmas Pyldma, Alexander Arder, etc…

“Helikon” is connected with Estonia with the long ties of friendship and creative activity. Soloists, artist of the choir and orchestra of the theatre have been touring Tallinn and Parnu, participated in Birgitta International Festival for the five times, Helikon’s “Aida” was performed in “Estonia” National Opera. Two operas in Dmitry Bertman’s production are performed on stage of “Estonia”: the premiere of this season “The Love for Three Oranges” by S. Prokofiev (set and costume designers Igor Nezhny and Tatiana Tulubieva are also from “Helikon-Opera”) and the antifascist opera “Wallenberg” by Errki Sven-Tuur, one of the most significant productions of National Opera. For this production Dmitry Bertman was awarded with the Estonian order of Santa Maria Land of the IV grade. Dmitry Bertman is also a laureate of State Prize of Estonia and Estonian Theatrical Union prize.
