The jubilee festival is open!

On the 1st of April the festival "Program 20 x 20. Music of the XXth century - Helikon is 20 years old", devoted to the theatre's jubilee, was opened in "Helikon-Opera". The two operas, "Mavra" by I. F. Stravinsky and "Hin and zuruck" by P. Hindemith were shown.

Before the beginning of the show Dmitry Bertman, Artistic Director of "Helikon-Opera" greeted Helikon people and guests. He spoke about the actors and told the history of the performances.

"Mavra" has been picked nonrandom. It was exactly the same performance from which the history of "Helikon-Opera" began. Twenty years later the same artists, who once played the premiere, met on stage: Natalia Zagorinskaya (Parasha), Ekaterina Melnikova (Mother), Svetlana Kulikova (Neighbour), Sergey Yakovlev (Hussar).

Another premiere of 1990 was shown in the second act. It was "Hin and zuruck" opera-sketch by P. Hindemith. Vadim Zaplechny (Robert), Ekaterina Melnikova (Elena), Sergey Kostiuk (Professor), Svetlana Kulikova (Sister of Mercy), Sergey Yakovlev (Wise Man), Ekaterina Oblezova (Cleaner), Mikhail Laverov (Aunt Emma). The orchestra was conducted by Alezander Voloschuk.

The public warmly received both performances and made a loud ovation.

The next performance, that will be shown in the context of the festival, is the expressionist drama "Lulu" by A. Berg. Hurry to see it!
