Helikon-Opera invites their friends to the ancient mansion in Nikitskaya, which soon will be closed for the reconstruction, to celebrate the 105th anniversary of Maria Maksakova.




Maria Maksakova - the prima donna of the Bolshoi Theatre, the People’s Artist of Russia, and the National Prize laureate - had a splendid mezzo-soprano, joint with the mellow timbre and a brilliant musical and scenic appearance. Her performance was distinguished by the expressive manner of singing and the skill of observation of phrasing.


Seventeen-year-old singer made her debut in the troupe in Astrakhan’. Her further performances were held on the stage of the Leningradsky opera and ballet theatre (today it is named Mariinsky Theatre), from 1923 till 1953 she was a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre. Undoubtedly, her best parts were Marina Mniszek, Marfa (“Boris Godunov”, “Khovanshchina” by M. Mussorgsky), Lubasha (“The Tzar’s Bride” by N. Rimsky-Korsakov), and favorite Carmen. It reminded to add that Maria Maksakova also took part in concerts; her repertoire was included the romances by P. Tchaikovski, the vocal cycles by R. Schumann, the musical compositions by Soviet composers and the Russian folklore. It is known she also led the pedagogical activity.


Maria Maksakova was a founder of the wonderful dynasty. Her last name is appeared on the playbills for 80 years. Luidmila, the Maria Maksakova’s daughter, is the Prima-Donna of the Vakhtangovsky theatre.  Maria Maksakova, Maria Maksakova’s granddaughter, is the possessor of striking soprano, and is the soloist of Helikon-Opera. Undoubtedly, Luidmila and Maria will perform at the “Ball for Maria” and will be its major masters of ceremonies.


This night is going to be overfilled with surprises and gifts, prepared by Dmitry Bertman. The soloists of the Bolshoi theatre Makvala Kasrashvili, Tamara Sinyavskaya, Badri Majsuradsze, the actress Larisa Golubkina, the soloists, the choir an the orchestra of Helikon-Opera will take part in the “Ball for Maria”.
