Opening of the 17th season in "Helikon-Opera"


The opening of the 17th season took place in "Helikon in Nikitskaya" on the 12th of August. First the events of the past season were totalled. The main event of the summer was that Natalia Zagorinskaya received the People's Artist of Russia title.

Dmitry Bertman congratulated the troupe with sucess, presented each artist a diploma with the list of all roles performed in the past season, and told about the plans for the next seasons.








The 17th season of "Helikon-Opera" will be open with the latest premiere – opera of the outstanding Italian composer-verist Umberto Giordano "Siberia" (31st August, 1st and 3rd September). In summer this performance had a great success on "Bartok+verismo" festival in Miszkolc (Hungary).


On the 14th of August the Helikon troupe goes to Tallinn, where the theatre will take part in "Birgitta" music festival, which takes place in the walls of the middle-age closter of the same name on the shore of Finnish bay, Pirita resort. It's the second time when Eri Klaas, the Artistic Director of the festival,  invites Helikon to Tallinn. The theatre is going to perform "La Clemenza di Tito", "Apollo et Hyacinthus" by W. A. Mozart, as well as "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk district" opera by Dmitry Shostakovich. The latter turned to be very relevant in 2006, when the whole world celebrates a 100th anniversary of D. Shostakovich, "Helikon-Opera" is going to take "Lady Macbeth..." to the southeast tour: Seoul, Peking, Su Jo, Nin Bo. Then, in December, the performance will be shown on stage of New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, as well as in Jerusalem and Haifa (Israel), and in Opera de Massy (France) in spring of 2007.


Also there is "Al Bustan" festival in Beirut, Lebanon, in Helikon's touring plans for March, old friendship connects the theatre and this festival. Despite the latest events, the Lebanese are hoping that this festival will happen.


The first premiere of the new season 2006/07 will be "Boris Godunov" opera by M. Musorgsky in D. Shostakovich edition on the 19th, 20th and 21st October. 


The First studio of "Helikon-Opera", which consists of the graduates of Dmitry Bertman's course in RATI, will start its work this season. "La Finta Guardinieria" by W. A. Mozart, "Acteon" by M. A.  Charpantier and "The Big Lightning" by D. Shostakovich are included in "Helikon-Opera" playbill (two last ones are the first productions in Russia). The premiere of "hunter's" opera "Acteon" (Stage Director - Galina Timakova) will take place on 30th September in Helikon in Nikitskaya. 


As usually, the leading soloists are actively performing.  "The Gift of Singing Soul" cycle of concerts will be open by recital of Natalia Zagorinskaya, who has just received the People's of Russia title. This concert will take place on the 29th September. Other soloists like the Honoured Artist of Russia Tatiana Kuindji (8th December) and Dmitry Skorikov (15th December) will also have their recitals. On the 6th October "Helikon-Opera" soloists will perform in "Shostakovich-gala" concert (a project by Mikhail Egiazaryan, the pianist). On the 22nd October the recital of the leading concertmaster of the theatre Sergey Chechyotko, a successful composer, will take place.


A special event will happen on the 7th November, it is "Student to Teachers" concert, in which the soloists of our theatre will pay debts to their vocal coaches. Among pedagogues will be such maestros like Z. Dolukhanova, G. Vishnevskaya, I. Maslennikova, V. Kudriavtseva, G. Oleinichenko, L. Gergieva, G. Troyanova, E. Obraztsova, K. Lisitsian, N. Terentieva, A. Eisen, Z. Sotkilava, V. Pyavko, A. Voroshilo, P. Skusnichenko, T. Chachava, B. Maysuradze,  A. Loshak, V. Scherbakov, D. Vdovin, L. Zimnenko, A. Martynov.


The charity program "Helikon-Opera" to medical workers of Moscow: Ill soul is cured by singing" will continue this season. It received a wide public resonance and gained popularity.


The festive "Helikon-Opera" gala-concerts, New Year in Big Hall of Tchaikovsky Conservatorium (31st December), "Devishnik" (23rd February), "Malchishnik" (8th March) became traditional. Spectators love them and tickets are usually sold out.


After the long break it will be possible to see "Traviata" performance in theatre's repertoire. The future plans are to stage "Il Barbier di Siviglia" by G. Rossini and "Le Nozze di Figaro" by W. A. Mozart. The spectators were interviewed which opera they wpuld like to see. The above-mentioned ones became the leaders. The premieres are planned for spring 2007.


New titles accompany the troupe of the theatre in new season. Natalia Zagorinskaya received People's Artist of Russia title. Last season Igor Tarasov, Denis Kirpanev and Larisa Kostiuk became Honoured Artists of Russia.


New soloists are accepted to "Helikon-Opera" troupe, they are Maria Maksakova, Elena Mikhailenko, Maria Lobasheva, Stanislav Shvets, Alexander Lukashevich.


The meeting of the troupe went in a friendly atmosphere. After it everybody was invited to a traditional buffet-table.
