Premiere of "Russalka"in Helikon-2

On the 26th of April the premiere of "Russalka" by Antonin Dvorak in Dmitry Bertman's production took place on stage of Helikon-2 in Novy Arbat. The production was devoted to 200 years since H. C. Andersen birthday and was first shown on the festival in his homeland, in the city of Aarhus.

Niels Muus (Denmark) is the musical director and conductor of "Russalka". Dmitry Bertman met him in Vienna during the staging of "The Rake's Progress" and invited him to conduct "Die Fledermaus" in Moscow. Several years later they decided to continue cooperation.

The performance turned to be surprisingly beautiful thanks to the costumes made by Tatiana Tulubieva, set decorations by Igor Nezhny and work of lighting designers Alexander Nilov and Denis Eniukov. Roles are performed by Svetlana Sozdateleva, Ekaterina Trebeleva (Russalka), Nikolay Dorozhkin, Dmitry Ponomarev (Prince), honoured artist of Russia Tatiana Kuindji, Maria Maksakova (Foreign Princess), honoured artist of Russia Sergey Yakovlev, Andrey Serov, Dmitry Skorikov (The Water Goblin), Ksenia Viaznikova, Elena Kufko, Maria Maskhulia (Jezibaba The Witch), Mikhail Seryshev, Igor Sirotkin (Forester), Svetlana Rossiyskaya (The Kitchen Boy), honoured artists of Russia Elena Guschina, Elena Kachura, Ekaterina Oblezova, as well as Anna Grechishkina, Marina Kalinina, Olga Rezayeva (Forest Nymphs). The guests of the premiere and journalists especially liked the debut of Andrey Serov as Water Goblin.

During the press-conference Dmitry Bertman told that the theatre is changing and phantasy and romanticism came to take the place of "psychoanalitycal producing". He took the story of Russalka, as he wanted to make such a tale, thanks to which the spectators who came to opera theatre at first time would love opera forever.

Niels Muus took the floor after Dmitry Bertman, jokingly inviting general director of Moscow department of TNT International Express Delivery Service - sponsor of the performance - Harro van Graafeiland to be his interpreter. Mr. van Graafeiland performed his duty with grace and in his turn congratulated Dmitry Bertman and "Helikon-Opera" troupe with the premiere and said that TNT will continue cooperation with the theatre and will make new interesting projects with "Helikon-Opera".
