Helikon-opera plans for the 33 season! 

The new season is starting with the large-scale project - together with the "Russia-Culture" tv-channel we are filming the movie-opera "The Queen of Spades" by P. I. Tchaikovsky in the historical mansion of the Shakhovskoy-Glebov-Streshnev familyIt is become possible due to the "Metalloinvest Management Company LLC" and it's director Nazim Efendiev' support. For the first time since 1982 the opera will be produced as a fiction film, when the action takes place in different locations, interiors and scenery. The film directors are Dmitry Bertman and Valery Spirin, conductor - Valery Kirianov. Assistant directors are Ilya Ilyin and Rostislav Protasov. 

In the late summer Helikon opera will go on tour to The Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area - Yugra with the «Eugene Onegin» and «Alike» performances. The productions will be presented in Khanty-Mansiysk, Surgut and Yugorsk in the framework of the federal program «Bolshie gastroli» by the Ministry of culture of Russia, with the support of «Rosconcert» and «Art-Helious».  

On September, 1 the «2nd Youth program for opera actors» starts at Helikon. This is our joint project with «Art-Helious», which is supported by Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives of the Russian Federation.

On September, 1 Helikon opera will go on tour to Belgorod with the opera «Eugene Onegin» and gala-concert «Opern masquerade». The performances will be presented in the framework of the «Belgorod in bloom» festival, which is supported by Governor of the Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov, Metalloinvest Management Company LLC and its CEO Nazim Efendiev.

On September 2 and 3 helikonians will participate in the cultural and educational project "Russian classics: read, listen, watch" in the capital of the Republic of Mari El, Yoshkar-Ola.

Traditionally Helikon-opera theatre takes part in the important cultural project «Russian opera at the walls of the monastery», which annually takes place in suburban cities of Moscow with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Moscow Region. This year we will present «Sadko» staged by Dmitry Bertman in Sergiev Posad and Serpukhov.

On September, 28 we will present the first premiere of the 33 season - «La bohème» by G. Puccini with the support of the Ministry of culture of Russia and Department of culture. Young and talented production team is headed by Dmitry Bertman. Last spring, we have announced a competition between young opera directors, lightning, set and costume designers. So 4 directors (laureates of the International competition for young opera directors «Nano-opera» of different years) are ready to stage La bohème”: Elizaveta Korneeva, Dmitry Otyakovsky, Mikhail Sabelev, Laysan Safargulova, set-designer - Irina Sid, costume designer – Fedor Arkhipov and the laureate of the National Championship of Creative Competencies ARTMASTERS Elizabeth Kholmushina, lightning designer – he laureate of the National Championship of Creative Competencies ARTMASTERS Maxim Greller. Designers’ group curator - Rostislav Protasov. Musical director maestro Filipp Selivanov. Choreographer – Ksenya Lisanskaya, Choirmaster - Evgeny Ilyin


In September-November 2022 the Ministry of culture of Russia and Association of musical theatre Will host the VII Musical theatre festival “To see the music”. On the “Helikon-opera” stage there will be presented the performances from St. Petersburg of the Republic of Karelia and Volgograd.

On October, 6 the cultural program of The Caspian Economic Forum (organized by the Government of Russia, Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation with the support of the Ministry of culture of Russia and Department of culture) will take place at Helikon-opera. 

On October 29 and 30 will be the firstnight of two ballet performances, dedicated to the jubilee of Mikhail Lavrovsky. “The evening of one-acts ballets by Mikhail Lavrovsky” will unite two brilliant works: “Two women” (based on the “Month in the Country” by I. Turgenev) and “Amok” (by Stefan Zweig’s novella). Project is supported by the Ministry of culture of Russia. 

b the cultural society of our country celebrates the 25th anniversary of the “Russia-Culture” tv-channel. Due to this, On November 1 we will perform the opera “Aida” to the channel’s staff, guests and friends. For many years the “Russia-Culture” tv-channel is our main informational partner, which will carry out the multi-camera shooting of the opera “Aida” to the further broadcasting.

During the Christmas holidays we will present the musical performance for children “The Snow Maiden School” (staged by Ilya Ilyin).

On January, 27 the traditional “Holocaust Remembrance Evening” will take place at the Helikon-opera. This year, the program will be created together with the laureates and winners of the All-Russian Competition for Young Composers “The score”.

On February 22 we will present the the 2nd premiere of the season – the opera “Il medium” by Gian Carlo Menotti staged by Ilya Ilyin (musical director - Principal Conductor Valery Kiryanov, set and costume designer Rostislav Protasov)

The next premiere will take place on March, 11 – the musical performance for children “That, do not know what” – collaboration between stage-director Ilya Ilyin and screenwriter Marina Skalkina. This production is continuation of the “Opera fairy tale welcomes guests”.

In 2023 the world celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergey Rachmaninoff. Helikon-opera could not stay away and in addition to participating in co-events with S. Rachmaninoff museum-preserve “Ivanovka”, we will hold the “Rachmaninoff’s april” festival. 

The 33 season the theatre will complete with the opera “Cavalleria rusticana” by P. Mascagni staged by Dmitry Bertman. The premiere will take place on June, 28. Conductor Evgeny Brazhnik, set and costume designers – Igor Nezhny and Tatiana Tulubieva.
