From May 25, 2017 till May 28, 2017 in the White-column Hall of the Princess Shakhovskaya the young opera directors will show their skills in the unique NANO-OPERA competition, which will be held in "Helikon-Opera" for the third time, but, for the first time in the historical building in Bolshaya Nikitskaya street. Today, NANO-OPERA is the only competition for the young opera directors in the world. The competition is supported by the Department of Culture of the city of Moscow.
In 2013 Dmitry Bertman came in with the idea of a competition for the opera directors, beginning their career. The name NANO-OPERA assumes that in the program of competition there are only short (small as nano-parts) opera scenes, and the jury gives a strictly limited time for staging them. In 10 minutes the contestants appear in front of the audience and the jury and should stage an aria, a duet, and a 15-minute mass scene from the selected opera.
Winners of the first two competitions, among which there are well-known stage directors Dmitry Belyanushkin (Grand Prix of the Ist Competition), Andrey Tsvetkov-Tolbin (winner of the II Competition), Philip Razenkov (winner of the II Competition), Pavel Sorokin (winner of the II Competition) and some others have already actively worked in the best opera houses in our country.
The professional jury, consisting of prominent figures of Russian and European musical culture, is headed by People's Artist of Russia, professor Dmitry Bertman. Like the last time, young stage directors will be also assessed by the media jury, made up of leading music critics of Russia, that will award its own prize.
The ceremony of awards, the reception and the final gala-concert will be held on May 28, 2017 at 19:00 on stage of White-column Hall of Princess Shakhovskaya. In the gala concert the winners will present their works, accompanied by the orchestra of the theater.
