Helikon-opera held an evening in the memory of Holocaust
The memorial evening was devoted to the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust, this event concluded the "Week of Memory" - a series of commemorative and educational events organized by the Government of Moscow, the Russian Jewish Congress and the center of the "Holocaust".
The event was attended by about 500 guests - the public and government officials, diplomats, artists, war veterans and former prisoners of camps and ghettos, teachers, pupils and students. Official speeches were made by president of the Russian Jewish Congress Yuri Kanner, head of the Department of Culture of Moscow, Alexander Kibovsky, Head of the national policy, inter-regional relations and tourism of the city of Moscow Vladimir Chernikov, chairman of the Moscow City Duma Alexey Shaposhnikov.
Among dignitaries guests were Armenian Ambassador Oleg Yesayan, Austrian Ambassador Emil Brix, Albanian Ambassador Arben Gazioni, German Ambassador Rüdiger von Fritsch, Ambassador of Greece Danae Magdalene Kumanaku, Danish Ambassador Thomas Winkler, Israeli Ambassador Zvi Heifetz, the Italian Ambassador Cesare Maria Ragalini, Lithuanian Ambassador Remigijus Motuzas, US Ambassador John Tefft, senior representatives of the embassies of Belarus, Hungary, Greece, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Turkey, France and other countries.
The evening program brought together into a single dramatic line of official speeches, a documentary chronicling the music numbers prepared by soloists, chorus and orchestra of "Helikon-Opera" (Director - Ilya Ilin, conductor - Valery Kiryanov). emcee of the evening - Vladislav Flyarkovsky.
One of the most poignant scenes of the evening was posthumously awarded the title of "Righteous Among the Nations" by Alexandra Zsolt, a resident of Kislovodsk, a feat which has become known recently. The title is awarded by a special committee at the Israeli National Institute for Holocaust Remembrance "Yad Vashem" to those who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust, and is considered one of the highest symbols of respect for the Jewish people.
