"TSARINA" by David Tukhmanov comes back to the repertoire of "Helikon-Opera"

Performances will be held from 2nd  to 7th of February, 2016 in the Great hall of the "Stravinsky".

"Tsarina" is a bright and entertaining show for a family viewing, based on the contemporary music and literary material. This opera which is about the fate of the greatest  Russian Empress Catherine the Great has been written by the composer of our time David Tukhmanov in collaboration with the librettists Yuri Riashentsev and Galina Polidi.

Artistic design of the production is striking: the majestic scenery, recreating the interiors of the Tsarskoye Selo Palace, dozens of mirrors, charming fire of the 700 candles, luxurious historical costumes. During the performance the history of the reign and love of Catherine will sweep in front of the audience.

The premiere of "Tsarina" took place on the 22th of July, 2009 on the stage of The Aleksandrinsky Theatre (Saint-Petersburg). Moscow premiere was successfully presented on the stage of the State Kremlin Palace. The show also took place at The Bolshoi Theatre of Russia and at The Moscow Operetta Theater. Due to unprecedented large-scale tour, organized by the  "META" Foundation, "Tsarina" has been performed in 15 Russian cities from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok.

The performance was made in the format of the "Open Opera" and addressed to big audiences. The original idea and unusual approach of the creators of the opera made itinteresting and accessible for unsophisticated public.

"In "Tsarina" bright and popular style of modern Opera combines the traditional style of performance with the simplicity and melodiousness of musical material and with interesting and recognizable plot," notes the production stage director Dmitry Bertman.

The author of the idea — People's artist of Russia Lev Leshchenko.

For the first time in this opera on stage will appear: Anna Pegova (Catherine II), Alexei Isaev (Grigory Potemkin), Olga Spitsyna (Countess Bruce, General's Leven), Vadim Volkov (Gustav IV), Dzambolat Dulaev (Guardian, Ambassador), Alexey Vertogradov (Peter III) and Andrey Shliachkov will conduct this opera, also for the first time. The title role will be performed by the People’s Artist of Russia Elena Ionova, the Honored Artist of Russia Ksenia Viaznikova, Larisa Kostiuk, Elena Semenova and the soloists of the theatre Elena Mikhailenko, Inna Zveniatskaya, Maya Barkovskaya and Olga Scheglova.
