Irina Oknina grew up in Moscow. Graduated from the Shnitke college of music (choral conducting class) and from GITIS (G. Ansimov workshop).
Between 2002-2004 she has interned at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre and participated in master classes hosted by renowned musicians such as Rastropovich, Haefliger and Meta. 

Together with the national orchestra conducted by Mstislav Rastropovich she has performed at the “Alte Oper” theatre in Frankfurt. After that she was immediately invited to the Bonn Opera House, with which she has partnered up until 2013. During this period, she has performed most of the leading soprano parts of the Italian repertoire, such as the Leonora, Desdemona, Amelia and Violetta (“Il trovatore”, “Traviata”, “Othello”, “Un ballo in maschera” by G. Verdi). Also, she performed as Adriana Lecouvreur in the homonymous opera by F. Cilea, Tatiana (“Eugene Onegin” by P. I. Tchaikovsky, Rusalka in the homonymous opera by A. Dvořák. 

While performing for the Bonn Opera, Irina Oknina has partnered with other theatres, impersonating the parts of Violetta (“Traviata”), Leonora (“Il trovatore”) and Amelia (“Un ballo in maschera") at the opera houses of Leipzig, Düsseldorf, Magdeburg and the Wien Volkstheater.

In 2012 she has made her debut in the main part of the “Aida” by Giuseppe Verdi at the Regentsburg Opera. In 2014, at the Colon Theatre (Buenos Aires, Argentina), she has impersonated the part of Zemfira in “Aleko” (main part was performed by the famous baritone Sergei Leiferkus) and Francesca in the opera “Francesca da Rimini” by S. Rachmaninov. In the same year, Irina has impersonated the part of Yaroslavna in a concert performance of “Prince Igor” by A. Borodin on the stage of the Leipzig Gewandhaus together with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra. 

In 2015, Irina Oknina has impersonated the part of Nastasya Filippovna in the opera “Idiot” by M. Weinberg at the Oldenburg Opera House, and also Amelia in a new production of “Un ballo in maschera” at the Nuremberg State Opera House (director - Vincent Boussard, production designer - Christian Lacroix). In 2016 she made her debut as Judith in B. Bartók's “The Castle of Duke Bluebeard” in Metz (France). 

Irina Oknina has also frequently performed as a chamber singer: she has participated in the Schumann Festival in Germany. Her repertoire includes romances by Strauss, Fauré, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich. 

Since 2019 Irina Oknina has become the soloist of the Moscow musical theatre “Helikon-opera”
