"Helikon-Opera" tour in South Korea and China


From 20th September to 2nd October "Helikon-Opera" was touring in Asia in the context of "Russian evenings in Seoul" and "Days of Russian culture in China" projects. Organizers of the festival were the Head of Federal Agency of culture and cinematography Mikhail Shvydkoy; Deputy Chairman of Russian State Duma, doctor of science, professor Arthur Chilingarov; Russian State Duma delegate, representative of South Korean diaspora in Russia Lubomir Tiun, Chief Executive of International Union of Korean Organizations in CIS and Baltic countries Mencher Tsoy, Ambassador of Russia in South Korea Gleb Ivashentsev, Russian State Duma delegate, test-pilot Vitaly Sevostianov. The President of the festival, Deputy Chairman of Comittee of Culture of Moscow, Member of President of Russia Comittee of Culture Stas Namin.


Besides "Helikon-Opera" Moscow symphonic orchestra, soloists Vladimir Matorin, Ludmila Nam, Nina Shatskaya, Roman Kim, Alexey Arkhipovskiy, Stas Namin band "Tsvety", "t.A.T.u" band, "Тень" theatre and Chelyabinsk theatre of modern dance participated in "Russian evenings in Seoul" festival.


On the 20th September the troupe of "Helikon-Opera" arrived in Seoul. After staying in five star "Ritz Carlton" hotel Helikon people immediately left for the streets of South Korea capital. They were amazed with everything: plenty of skyscrapers shimmering with all colours of rainbow, a lot of latest electronic achievments, national cuisine, but most of all, kind and responsive people.

On the 22nd, 23rd and 24th September performances of "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk district" took place on stage of Seognam Art Centre, Opera House. It is necessary to specify that this production continues its big tour in the context of 100th anniversary since D. Shostakovich birth. In August "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk district" was shown in Estonia. After South Korea, the performance will be shown in Israel and in March 2007 in Paris, France. In Korea hall of 1500 seats was full all three days. Spectators were applauding to the stars of the theatre Svetlana Sozdateleva, Nikolay Dorozhkin, Sergey Toptygin, Dmitry Ponomarev, Vadim Zaplechny, Larisa Kostiuk, Marina Kalinina, Mikhail Seryshev, Andrey Vylegzhanin. On the 23rd October Karina Grigoryan brilliantly performed as Katerina Lvovna, Andrey Serov as Boris Timofeevich, Alexey Tikhomirov as Priest and Ksenia Viaznikova as Sonyetka. Vladimir Ponkin, who celebrated his 55th birthday on the day of the first performance, stood at the conductor's stand.

During their visit to Korea artists of "Helikon-Opera" were under undivided attention from local and Russian media. Numerous interviews, promotional reels, but the most important, was the great success that artists had.


It was the first time when "Helikon visited Korea and at once the negotiations about further joint projects were held.


On the 25th September the troupe of "Helikon-Opera" said goodbye to Seoul and headed to China where in the context of days of Russia in China the performances of "The Tsar's Bride" were held. And here "Helikon" was upholding its reputation. Tatiana Kuindji, Elena Semenova, Larisa Kostiuk, Ksenia Viaznikova, Dmitry Ponomarev, Nikolay Dorozhkin, Andrey Vylegzhanin, Sergey Toptygin, Mikhail Guzhov, Alexey Tikhomirov, Ekaterina Oblezova, Svetlana Sozdateleva won hearts of Chinese communists.

After playing in Ningbo and Sudzhow cities, "Helikon" people arrived in Peking. Performing in Peking, excursion to Chinese Wall, visiting lots of famous trade centers didn't leave them a minute of peace. On the 2nd October tred, but happy "Helikon" people returned to Moscow.
