Helikon conquered Tallinn again
From the 14th till 18th August "Helikon-Opera" was touring in Tallinn. Performances "La Clemenza di Tito" and "Apollo et Hyacinthus" by W. A. Mozart, and "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk district" by D. Shostakovich were shown in the frames of Birgitta festival under the leadership of famous Estonian conductor Eri Klaas. Also the concert of Russian spiritual music was given.

This is the second time when Helikon came to Estonia. Last year "Les Dialogues des Carmelites" by F. Poulenc were shown at the festival. Seems, Tallinn citizens liked the theatre, otherwise how to explain the auditoriums were full and the spectators warmly received the performances - artists couldn't leave the stage because of ovations and "Bravos".

Performances "La Clemenza di Tito" and "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk" were shown in the open air in Birgitta closter, which recently became a famous concert venue of the city: the stage built in ancient walls has the wonderful acoustics and it is very convenient for big shows, as there is expanse for directors, designers and artists. Besides, the events that are staged there have special atmosphere. Besides, the organizers of the festival treated the spectators with local "Pirita" liqueur, because on the Baltic beach it is cold in the evenings.

Both productions were met very friendly: the spectators hit the roof, although it is not common here.

The bows after "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk district"
"Apollo et Hyacinthus" was held in Town Hall. This performance was specially shown for high guests of the festival.
The concert of Russian spiritual music, that was held in Niguliste Lutheran church in the centre of Tallinn, received a warm welcome as well. Artists of the choir performed "Vsenoschnoye bdnie" by S. Rakhmaninov, "V molitvakh neusypayuschuyu Bogoroditsu", "Tebe poyem" S. Rakhmaninova and other works by Russian composers. Honoured Artist of Russia Denis Kirpanev was conducting the concert. The solo parts were performed by Honoured Artist of Russia Larissa Kostiuk and Andrey Palamarchuk. The spectators applauded twice - after the main program and after encores.

This time "Birgitta" was held in second time, but the festival has already become the largest in region - besides Estonians there were a lot of guests from Luthiania, Latvia, Finland, Sweden, Norway. We are sure that by year 2010, in which Tallinn is announced to be the cultural capital of Europe, "Birgitta" will become the best European music festival.
