La Banda dell'Arma dei Carabinieri performs in Helikon-opera

On August 24, with the support of the Italian Embassy in Moscow, within the framework of long-term cooperation of the Italian Institute of Culture in Moscow and Helikon-Opera theatre La Banda dell'Arma dei Carabinieri (Italy) will perform in Stravinsky Big Hall. The program includes symphonic music, soundtracks of Italian composers and Russian music. The concert begins at 19.00.

The orchestra was founded in 1820, when the detachment of trumpeters was first included to the Royal Carabinieri. In 1862, the team has been transformed into a brass band, and then significantly expanded and became known as La Banda dell'Arma dei Carabinieri since 1920.

Outstanding conductors headed the Band and it soon gained fame outside of Italy. The first tour of the orchestra took place in 1916 in Paris with the famous orchestras of the French Republican Guard and the British Royal Guard The Band of Carabinieri played in The Trocadero, at the Invalides House and the Tuileries garden in honor of wounded soldiers of the Allied army.

Since July 2000 Massimo Martinelli headed the orchestra as the Chief Conductor, with whom the band continues to tour and participate in important events and major festivals. In 2001 the team played in the World Festival of Police Orchestras (Japan), in 2005 - at the World Exposition in Aichi, in 2006 in Guangzhou to mark the Year of Italy in China.
