ALISA GITSBA

Born in Sukhumi. In 1989 she has graduated from the vocal department of the Sukhumi musical college and in 1994 from the The Gnesins Russian Academy of Music with a specialization in “Solo Academic Singing” (training course of Professor N. Shilnikova).

She is the soloist of the Moscow musical theatre Helikon-opera since 1993.

Now in her repertoire there are over 30, mostly leading, parts: Tatiana and Lisa (“Eugene Onegin” and “The Queen of Spades” by P. I. Tchaikovsky), Nedda (“Pagliacci” by R. Leoncovallo), Micaela (“Carmen” by G. Bizet), Antonia (“Les Contes d’Hoffman” by J. Offenbach), Rosalinde (“Die Fledermaus” by J. Strauss), Mother Marie (“Les Dialogues des Carmelites” by F. Poulenc), Emilia Marty (“Vec Makropoulos” by L. Janacek). The title roles in the operas by G. Verdi play a special part in singer’s repertoire: Violetta (“La traviata”), Aida (“Aida”), Alice Ford (“Falstaff”), Lady Macbeth (“Macbeth”).

Alisa Gitsba is the diploma winner of the International vocalist competition in Perm (1993), Rimsky-Korsakov International Vocal Competition in Saint- Petersburg (1996).

She took part in such music festivals as: December evenings of S. Richter in The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Sacro Art festival in Loccum (Germany), Russian seasons in Nice (France), Russian cinema festival in Monte-Carlo, “Hibla Gerzmava invites” in Sukhumi, festival of the contemporary music “Francophonie” and “In Memory of Edison Denisov” in Moscow, choral festival in memory of B. Tevlin in the Moscow Conservatory, in the subscription of Moscow Conservatory.

The significant amilestone in the artistic biography of the actress has become her participation in large-scale project – dramatic production “Master-class of Maria Callas”, which was performed with great success for over 70 times in 50 Russian cities and neighboring countries.

There is music of different styles in singer’s concert repertoire: from the baroque epoch to the nowadays avant-garde. Due to Alisa, the following operas has been sounded for the first time: “The Blind Swallow” by A. Schetinsky, “Station” by A. Syumak, oratorio “Death of the Poet” by G. Sidelnikov, 5th symphony by A. Rybnikov, vocal cycles by E. Denisov, P. Hindemith, O. Messian and the others.

The singer has implemented several repository recordings for the “Orpheus” broadcasting station, with her participation were produced the DVD-disks with the Helikon-opera productions of the opera (“Les Dialogues des Carmelites” by F. Poulenc.

She has cooperated with such outstanding directors as: V. Gergiev, Y. Simonov, V. Ponkin, T. Currentzis, M. Pekarsky, G. Rozhdestvensky, E. Brazhnik, E. Mazzola and the others.

In 2004 for the merits in Russian musical and theatrical art development she was awarded a title “Merited Artist of the Russian Federation”, and in 2007 awarded a title People’s Artist of the Republic of Abkhazia.
